Ski Camp Fun!
Sleeping
The beds were hard, uncomfortable and squeaky! Bedtime was at 8pm and lights out at 8.30pm. Helen tells us to brush our teeth and go to the toilet.
Annoying Sam is getting hyper throwing lollies everywhere. Me and Sumon looked at each other and said together, lets eat all the lollies! But josh what are we going to do with the evidence? Chuck them in the rubbish bin of course! When we finally got to sleep it was 10 o’clock! By Josh Penno
Getting on the chairlift was god
fun. When we got off it was
cool. We went down the Whitestar. Sumon got too much speed so he fell
over. But Whitestar was pretty
hard, not easy. On the chair lift,
it had the best view. A snow
boarder hit me and my ski came off but I put it back on and went back up the
chairlift. The Whitestar chairlift
was way faster and I could not stop, and I went flying down the mountain and
then I finally stopped. I had to
wait for Sumon and he took forever.
But it was OK because Mark said “You can go down by yourself, just wait
for me at the lift”
Mark came flying down and he past
me. Then we had to find Sumo. Louis asked if he could come with us
and we said yes. We went over
jumps, it was cool! We fell over trying
to turn the corner and then a snow boarder came and helped me up. He was so nice and I said thank
you.
Me and Louis grabbed some poles but
they were lame so we went to the café and Helen said to be back in one
hour. I said OK and had another turn
on the chairlift. By Sam Davies
Food Glorious Food!
At ski camp we were put in groups, so every morning one group would have to get up really early to prepare breakfast. Then when breakfast was done, the next group would clean up, then the next group would prepare lunch so that we could make our sandwiches ready for lunch at the ski field. Another group would clean up the lunch things. Once we had gone skiing and come back and put our everyday clothes back on, we had a play and the first group would prepare dinner. The second group would clean up… and that went on for four days! By Brook Holt

Totara estate and Clarck's mill visit
on tuesday last week we went to Totara Estate and Clarck's mill just north of Oamaru, it ties in with our topic "from paddock to plate" here are some recounts we did afterwards
The swag hut is disgusting and is small. It has a small little bath. Their bath day was Sunday. The stinky Dad got to go first. But did you know they all went in the same water? And, if you’re wondering what a swagman is – it is a man going around the neighbourhood asking people for jobs in exchange for food and a bed.

At Totara Estate we all learned to do washing. In the olden days they didn’t have washing machines, but they did have buckets and a special thing called a washboard. We hung up our washing and we beat the rugs with a broom and Gus broke one broom.

We arrived at Totara Estate. Everyone who worked there came out to greet us and they introduced themselves. We saw that they were wearing old fashioned clothes! We saw beautiful Oamaru stone buildings.

When the school went on a trip we made butter. We were shaking one jar and then the other one was going around. With the other one, it whisked. When it came around the second time, it got harder and harder to turn because the cream got thicker and thicker and then you add salt and put it in cold water and strain it and you have butter!
